Recently, Etihad Cargo has become the first cargo airline in the Middle East to receive the IATA Drug Logistics Independent Certification Centre of Excellence (CEIV) certification, setting a clear benchmark for the region. Only 16 cargo airlines around the world have this important certification, and now Etihad Cargo is one of them.

This certification covers the Etihad freight business and its cargo handling and warehousing operations at the Abu Dhabi International Airport hub, highlighting Etihad's excellent performance in its management of product integrity and the transport of high-value, temperature-sensitive goods in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries.

Abdulla Mohamed Shadid, Managing Director of Etihad Airways' Freight and Logistics Department, said, “The Etihad Cargo Department is proud to be the first cargo airline to receive CEIV certification for IATA Pharmaceutical Logistics in the region. Since the beginning of 2018, a new strategy has been launched. Since then, we have placed great emphasis on strengthening high-end vertical products to bring the highest quality and reliability standards to our customers. Today this important certification will greatly promote our TempCheck (temperature-controlled goods) product line."

Etihad Airport Services, a cargo handling division of Etihad, has also obtained CEIV certification for pharmaceutical logistics. Combining Etihad’s global air cargo network covering the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia with its modern passenger fleet and Boeing 777 all-cargo fleet, these two certifications reaffirmed Etihad Providing customers with seamless end-to-end temperature control solutions strengthens Abu Dhabi's position as a key global logistics center.

To meet the stringent standards required for CEIV certification for pharmaceutical logistics as well as IATA temperature control practices, GDP best practices and other international standards, Etihad has implemented significant improvements to facilities, systems and processes. These improvements include the planned use of cold-moving carts at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the use of thermal blankets at Abu Dhabi and key global sites, and close collaboration with other active temperature-controlled container suppliers to promote warming within their global network and control container solutions, etc.

In order to further strengthen its commitment to this market segment, Etihad also launched a major project to expand and renovate the cargo terminal of Abu Dhabi International Airport in the fourth quarter of 2018, aiming to further increase the existing drugs by 2020. The temperature control space of the cargo area and the special temporary storage facilities in the midfield complex will prepare Etihad Airways for the most advanced Midfield complex.

Shadid said, "2018 is an important year in our transformation journey, and it is also the most fruitful year in the history of the company. During this period, we have set new records in various business areas. We have redefined the Boeing 777 freighter. The fleet strategy also launched a new freight network that adds critical capacity to the core trading lines. Two of our new products, FlightValet (Automotive Transportation) and FreshForward (Cold Chain Industry), have achieved significant results in October. The migration to the leading digital technology platform iCargo has also been completed. The CEIV certification for pharmaceutical logistics has enabled us to achieve a perfect start this year, and also laid the foundation for us to further consolidate our position and truly become the preferred air cargo partner for our customers."
