Report, photo copyright by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

According to Aeroroutes, Air China will launch a new route on 26 October 2026 linking Beijing Capital International Airport with Copenhagen (Denmark) and Reykjavik (Iceland). This is the first scheduled passenger route between mainland China and Iceland operated by a Chinese airline.

The route will be operated by A330-300 aircraft, with one flight each on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Tickets for this flight are currently on sale.

Air China has also obtained fifth freedom rights, allowing it to sell round-trip tickets between Copenhagen and Reykjavik.

According to Sabre data, approximately 27,000 passengers travel between mainland China and Iceland in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of nearly 8%. Helsinki is the largest transit point, handling about one-third of these passengers, followed by Frankfurt, London, Vienna, and Copenhagen.

Although the market size for this route is relatively small, the recovering leisure travel demand and the increasing interest of Chinese travelers in Nordic destinations are supporting the market demand for this route. The new route will also provide Icelandic travelers with the opportunity to connect to China's extensive domestic market via Beijing Capital.

The Chinese Embassy in Iceland stated on Facebook that this is a major achievement in bilateral relations and will change the way people travel between China and Iceland, as well as between Asia and Europe.
