Japanese media reported that AirAsia Berhad will close its operations in Japan.
According to the Nikkei News, a person familiar with the AirAsia Group Co., Ltd. revealed that the low-cost airline is closing its business in Japan in response to the covid restrictions on global travel.
According to reports, the directors of the Malaysian group will meet next Monday (October 5) to decide to end the company's business in Japan. According to the report, AirAsia will make an announcement early next week.
According to reports, AirAsia announced its largest quarterly loss on record in August and expressed its hope to raise 2.5 billion ringgit (S$823 million) before the end of this year to deal with the impact of the coronavirus epidemic. AirAsia said it is currently evaluating the company's other businesses in Japan, including e-commerce group Rakuten Inc..
An AirAsia spokesperson said on Wednesday (30 September) that there has been no announcement regarding the closure of Japanese operations. However, the spokesperson revealed that AirAsia Japan has suspended all flight sales.
