Derivations of Chinese airport names

Chinese airport names are interesting and they can be amusing. Continue reading to learn more.

Kunming Changshui Airport is named after Changshui Village, Guandu District, Kunming. The meaning of Changshui is long.

Haikou Meilan Airport, like the name of a graceful girl, also has a feeling of going abroad.

Shenyang Taoxian Airport, named after Taoxian Town near Shenyang, gives people a feeling of paradise.

Wuhan Tianhe Airport is named after Tianhe Town, Huangpi District, Wuhan City. It is more magnificent than the previous Nanhu and Wangjiadun.

Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Baiyun Mountain, Baiyun District, Baiyun Hotel, Baiyun Road, the new and old Baiyun pass by.

Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, the earliest gateway airport in China, is located in Hongqiao Town, Minhang District, Shanghai. It is said that the rainbow can be seen on the cross-ponse bridge after the rain.

Chengdu Shuangliu Airport is named after Chengdu Shuangliu County.

The Chinese characters for "Gaoqi" in Xiamen Gaoqi Airport refers to the winding bank of the seashore.  It is also the first airport in China to use foreign loans.

Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport is named after the Xiaoshan District in Hangzhou. It suggests a beautiful and outstanding airport.

Diqing Shangri-La Airport. When you arrive at this airport, you may not want to leave the airport. The natural scenery of the plateau on which it is located is very beautiful.

Luzhou Golden Airport, the most domineering airport name, was named after the Golden Village. It was one of the few airports in the first  development of China civil aviation in 1959.

Changde Taohuayuan International Airport is named after Tao Yuanming's "Peach Blossom Spring". Tourists associate  Changde with paradise. The airport yearns for travellers.

Beijing Capital Airport, the national gateway, the centre of China, is no longer domineering when Daxing International Airport opens on 30 September 2018. Media and travelers need to indicate Beijing Capital or Daxing Airport when rmentioning Beijing international airport.

Urumqi Diwopu Airport sounds like a hen's nest. It should be renamed Tianshan Airport or Xuelian Airport. Some netizens said that it did not match the airport portal level identity.

Changsha Huanghua Airport is easy to reminiscent of the sentence: "When the day lily is cold" (but the first reaction  is "Huanghua big niece"). It is the fastest growing airport in Central and South China.

At Dalian Zhoushuizi Airport, people often cannot remember the name. Is it Zhou Shuizi or Zhou Zishui? Located in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian, it floods whenever there is rain. However, the name of Dashuibo, which is not lacking in water, has been guarding Weihai Airport for more than 20 years!

Xi'an Xianyang Airport, is located in Xianyang, not in Xi'an. Speaking of the name, it definitely makes one look down on the plane. The former Xiguan Airport was under the city wall.

Yangzhou Taizhou Airport, located in the middle of Yangzhou and Taizhou, is a joint-venture airport. Are you flying to Yangzhou or flying to Taizhou?

Baotou Erliban Airport, listening to the name is close to the city, because of this name, the locals have complained that it is really a distance of two and a half.

Qiqihar Sanjiazi Airport, everyone thought it was the airport where the three families opened together. One person came out and played a mahjong family.

Shangrao Sanqingshan Airport is named after Sanqing Mountain, the most famous Taoist mountain in China. These airports have changed their account books.

Tianjin Binhai Airport, formerly known as Zhangguizhuang Airport, was named after the location of Zhangguizhuang in Dongli District, Tianjin, the cradle of the new Chinese civil aviation. Later, with the construction of Tianjin Binhai New Area, it was renamed Tianjin Binhai Airport in 1995.

Shenzhen Baoan Airport, formerly known as Huangtian Airport, was followed by the homonym of “Huangtian” and “Huangquan”. People were always guilty of flying to Shenzhen Huangtian. In order to avoid taboos, in 2001, Shenzhen Airport applied to the Civil Aviation Administration for a change to Bao’an Airport.

Harbin Taiping Airport, originally called Yanjiagang Airport, was renamed when the new terminal was put into operation in 1998, because the airport is located in Taiping Village, Xinfa Town, Daoli District, Harbin.

Zhuhai Jinwan Airport, formerly known as Sanzhao Airport, is located in Sanzao Town, Zhuhai. It replaced the old Sanzhao Management District in Zhuhai Jinwan District. In 2008, the Zhuhai CPPCC National Committee agreed to rename the Sanzhao Airport in 2013. For Jinwan Airport.

Wenzhou Longwan Airport, which was initially established by a group of Wenzhou businessmen relying on private financing, was formerly known as Yongqiang Airport. In 2013, the Civil Aviation Administration agreed that Wenzhou Yongqiang Airport was officially renamed Wenzhou Longwan International Airport. Yongqiang’s name is actually quite good, symbolizing the spirit of self-improvement of Wenzhou businessmen.

Tongren Phoenix Airport used to be called Tongren Daxing Airport, compared with Beijing's Daxing Airport, the name is the same, the same name. The main body of Tongren Airport is in Daxing County, Tongren, which is very close to the famous Fenghuang Ancient City in the country. Therefore, it was renamed Phoenix Airport, but it has been renamed with Sanya Phoenix Airport. Fortunately, the name of Tongren Phoenix is ​​not as loud as that of Sanya Phoenix.

The airports below have disappeared.

Guilin Qifengshan Airport, Chongqing Baishiyi Airport, Guiyang Leizhuang Airport, Kunming Wujiaba Airport, Changchun Dafangshen Airport, Jinan Zhangzhuang Airport, Xi'an Beiguan Airport, Nanjing University Campus Airport, Shantou Waisha Airport.

These airports used to be both military and civilian. Later, the economic development was returned to the Air Force, and then their mission was ended.

The airports' names below are domineering.

Yibin Wuliangye Airport is named after China's most influential liquor brand. In order to expand the influence of Yibin, the country approved the company to name the airport in 2012. Wuliangye Airport is expected to be put into operation next year and is currently using Yibin Caiba Airport in Caiba Town, Yibin.

Zunyi Moutai Airport was jointly funded by Maotai Group and Renhuai Municipal People's Government. On the maiden voyage, on the flight routes of Moutai in or out of the port (limited to the first flight), passengers will receive the Flying Moutai Commemorative Wine on the boarding pass.

Xuzhou Guanyin Airport is located in Shuanggou Town, Suining County, Xuzhou, near the Guanyin Pavilion Village.

Changzhou Benniu Airport, a very rushing airport, was previously a military airport. In 1985, it was changed to a military-civilian airport by the state approval. In 2003, the airport management right was transferred to the Changzhou Municipal Government.

Bijie Feixiong Airport is located in Feixiong Village, Xiangshui Township, Jinhai Lake New District, Bijie City. In 2017, the airport throughput exceeded one million.

In the past 40 years of reform and opening up, the number of domestic airports in China has increased from 78 in 1978 to 232 at present, including 32 in the tens of millions of airports and 52 in the airports below 10 million to 10 million. The names of airports are good or bad, and their status and ability cannot be ignored.
