According to a consolidated list by air ticket and hotel room booking web-site Traveloka on tech-friendly airlines of the world, Cathay Pacific is rated tech-friendliest in Asia for offering the best in inflight entertainment options to Asian passengers.
Although it is ranked 82 out of 100 by Traveloka, lower than the international winner Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific ranked 6 on Traveloka's list brings the highest cost of inflight entertainment power savings to its passengers in Asia.
The list shows Cathay Pacific's WiFi availability cost per hour of internet access is less than the best airline nominated by Skytrax, Singapore Airlines.
A Cathay Pacific passenger pays 9.95 US Dollars per hour for WiFi speed up to 2 mbps while a Singapore Airlines passenger pays 8.80 US Dollars per hour for WiFi speed up to 1.17 mbps only.
In contrast, a Qatar Airways passenger pays 5 US Dollars per hour for WiFi usage up to 8 mbps. Qatar Airways flies to Hong Kong and Singapore while Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific do not fly to Doha.
Passengers of Cathay Pacific are able to text messages easily, watch live TV and they are allowed to proceed with phone calls inflight.
The second runner-up in Northeast Asia is EVA Air with the rate of 77.4 out of 100 as there is no live TV onboard EVA Air flights. The third runner-up in the same region is Hong Kong Airlines with the rate of 65.1 out of 100 due to prohibition of text messaging and inflight phone calls.
Singapore Airlines fares badly in the range of inflight entertainment options and costs. Passengers cannot watch live TV and make phone calls onboard Singapore Airlines' flights and WiFi availability cost per hour of internet access is higher than the above airlines.
Singapore Airlines needs to improve on inflight entertainment options and project itself as a tech-friendlier airline as its air fares are the highest in Asia which do not match with the inflight entertainment options available and costs.
