Air Tanzania launches flights to Johannesburg and Mumbai in June and July 2019 respectively

Air Tanzania launches Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flights from Dar Es Salaam to Johannesburg on 28 June 2019 and to Mumbai on 17 July 2019. These inaugural flights come 11 months to more than a year after the 787-8 aircraft named "Kilimanjaro Hapa kazi tu" has been deployed on domestic flights in Tanzania.

According to schedules, on 28 June 2019, Air Tanzania flight TC208 operated by "Kilimanjaro Hapa kazi tudeparts from Dar Es Salaam for Johannesburg at 10.30 am, touches down in Johannesburg at 12.45 pm before leaving Johannesburg for Dar Es Salaam under flight TC209 at 2.20 pm and arriving in Dar Es Salaam at 6.35 pm.


Air Tanzania receives its first 787-8 on 8 July 2018. By July 2019, its second B787-8 will join its fleet to launch the maiden flight to Mumbai.  

On 17 July 2019, flight TC400 leaves Dar Es Salaam for Mumbai at 6 pm, arrives in Mumbai at 2.50 am on 18 July 2019 before taking off for Dar Es Salaam at 4.45 am and arriving in Dar Es Salaam at 8.35 am under flight TC401.

Air Tanzania's scheduled flight to Johannesburg, lasting for 3 hours 15 minutes, operates four times a week, on Fridays, Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays while the Dreamliner aircraft departs for Mumbai on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and returns to Dar Es Salaam on Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays.

The Dreamliner flight to Mumbai, lasting for 6 hours 20 minutes, will be a boon for many Indians and Africans living in India and Tanzania while the Dreamliner international flights to Dar Es Salaam will certainly attract international tourist groups and wildlife enthusiasts.

According to Air Tanzania, the flight to Mumbai will be extended to Guangzhou in the future, as it has not taken up the slot to launch non-stop Dreamliner flight to China in February 2019.


As of 8 May 2019, Air Tanzania's fleet comprises 1 Bombardier Q300, 3 Bombardier Q400, 2 Airbus A220-300 and 1 Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
