Taiwan's China Airlines said on Wednesday (25 June 2025) that it will spend more than $2 billion to add more Airbus aircraft to its fleet, including five A350-900 long-haul aircraft and eight A321neo aircraft for short and medium-haul routes, according to Reuters.

China Airlines is currently in the process of fleet renewal. Last year, it ordered nearly $12 billion (calculated at list prices) worth of long-haul aircraft from Boeing and Airbus.

The airline said in a statement that five A321s will be leased from Air Leasing Corporation at a cost of $240 million, and negotiations for the other three aircraft are still ongoing.

China Airlines revealed that the purchase cost of the A350 will not exceed $1.965 billion, and if leased, the cost will not exceed $1.148 billion, but it did not provide further details.

China Airlines' chairman told Reuters this week that the airline will postpone the retirement of some old aircraft due to delays in the delivery of previously ordered Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

China Airlines currently operates 15 A350-900 aircraft, and its 18th A321 is about to arrive.
