Vistara successfully launches non-stop flight from Pune to Singapore on 2 December 2022

On the day, 2 December 2022, that Changi Airport holds celebrations to welcome Cambodia Airways' first scheduled flight from Phnom Penh to Singapore, the airport has earlier witnessed the arrival of Vistara's first scheduled flight from Pune.

Vistara flight UK111, which actually departed from Pune on 2 December 2022 at 2.14 am (scheduled time 2.10 am), landed in Changi T3 at 9.42 am (scheduled time 10.30 am). Later, flight UK112 left Changi for Pune at 12.18 pm (scheduled time 11.50 am) and arrived in Pune at 2.59 pm local time (scheduled time 3.10 pm).

Singapore is the second international destination on the route network of Pune Airport, after Dubai, which SpiceJet runs scheduled flights to while Pune is Changi Airport's latest new destination.

Introduction to Pune
Pune Airport is located in the historic centre of Pune, in Maharashtra, India.
Pune is an all-year-round destination for families and students.
Home to many research and education institutes of India including India's largest university Savitribal Phule Pune University (SPPU) and the National Institute of Virology, Pune is home to the Maharashtra cricket team, the original homeland of badminton in its modern form, and is the city of Indian museums, parks and zoos. Historical attractions include the Pataleshwar cave temple dated to the eighth century AD, the 19th century Aga Khan Palace and Shinde Chhiatri, a memorial dedicated to General Mahadaji Shinde.
Prior to the Pune flight launch to Singapore, passengers have to transit in Chennai and other Indian bigger cities for onward flights to Pune.
Vistara flies from Pune to Singapore four times a week, on Fridays, Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays.
Vistara merger into Air India to complete by March 2024
The launch of the new route Pune-Singapore comes at the time when Singapore Airlines has agreed to take up the stake of 25 per cent in Air India and merge Vistara into Air India. It is not known whether the merger identity will have a new livery of Air India but industry observers mention the name "Air India" prevails.
Air India is merging AirAsia India with Air India Express. Both low-cost airlines appear to operate flights with their own fleet at the meantime.
According to the agreement announced on 1 December 2022, Singapore Airlines will acquire a 25.1% stake in Air India as part of a deal to merge its full-service joint venture, Vistara, into Air India. Vistara is a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and the parent company of Indian conglomerate Tata Group.
Singapore Airlines will invest about $250 million in Air India as part of the deal, which it said gives the company "significant positions in all key market segments".
Singapore Airlines intends to fund the investment with internal cash, which stood at S$17.5 billion as of 30 September 2022.
The two companies aim to complete the merger by March 2024, subject to regulatory approval, according to an announcement after the market closure on Tuesday.
About Vistara
Vistara is the commercial name of TATA Singapore Airlines, the joint-venture between TATA and Singapore Airlines, which comes into being on 11 August 2014 although TATA Singapore Airlines was founded in 2013. International flights to Singapore from Delhi and Mumbai begin on 6 and 7 August 2017 with B737-800 aircraft.

In 2022, services to Singapore from Mumbai and Delhi were resumed using A320neo and A321neo aircraft after covid restrictions on Indian travellers were relaxed.
Vistara's fleet comprises 6 A320-200, 34 A320neo, 4 A321neo, 5 B737-800 and 3 Dreamliners 787-9. It has further orders of 19 A320neo, 2 A321neo jets and 4 Dreamliners 787-9.
