According to TheStar, Capital A Berhad's aviation division AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL) signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with Sivilai Asia on 9 December 2022 to establish new low-cost airline AirAsia Cambodia in Phnom Penh.
AirAsia said the new airline will further expand AirAsia's route services in Cambodia and Indochina, and most importantly connect it to international markets in ASEAN, North Asia and beyond. The new airline will also allow AirAsia to carry out additional operations in various existing markets where it already operates, allowing for greater scale, connectivity and further reductions in operating costs.
AirAsia Cambodia aims to further stimulate Cambodia's aviation and tourism industry, introduce new destinations, create jobs, and bring real low-cost operations to Cambodia.
It is reported that the new airline is expected to start operations by the end of 2023 after obtaining relevant regulatory approvals.
