Greater Bay Airlines signs order for 15 Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft, plans route to Ho Chi Minh City

Greater Bay Airlines, established in line with the development strategy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area of the Communist Party of China, held a signing ceremony with the Boeing Company of the United States in Hong Kong on 3 March 2023, and officially signed an order for 15 Boeing 737-9 MAX Airliner purchase agreement. It also expressed its intention to purchase five more 787 Dreamliners.

Greater Bay Airlines told the media that the delivery of the new airliner will start in 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2027, and the Boeing 737-9 MAX will become the main model of the company's future fleet.

At the signing ceremony of the aircraft purchase agreement, in addition to the presence of representatives of the two companies, Hong Kong government officials such as Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Yau Ying-wah also attended the platform.

According to public information, Greater Bay Airlines starts operations in July 2022 and currently operates flights on four routes from Hong Kong to Suvarnabhumi, Taoyuan, Narita and Incheon. New routes to Kansai, Manila and Ho Chi Minh City are planned to be launched before end of April 2023. It has postponed plan to launch flight to Changi.
