According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of South Korea stated on 28 February 2023 that it has completed the inspection of the safe operation system of Eastar Jet and updated its Air Operation Certificate (AOC). Eastar Jet will return to service after a three-year hiatus.

The AOC is the approval granted by the national aviation management department to allow the airline to use the aircraft for commercial purposes. It requires the airline's safety personnel, facilities, maintenance and operation, and maintenance support systems to meet appropriate standards.

Affected by operational difficulties and the covid epidemic, Eastar Jet suspended operations in March 2020, and the AOC also became invalid. Afterwards, Jeju Air's acquisition of Eastar Jet failed, and the court initiated Eastar Air bankruptcy proceedings in February 2021. In June 2021, a real estate company acquired Eastar Jet and applied to the Ministry of Land and Resources to renew the AOC but the Ministry of Land and Resources refused on the grounds of insufficient capital for safe operation. In January 2022, the airline, which was facing financial difficulties, was resold to private equity firm VIG Partners.
