On 15 July 2019, Vietnam Airlines announced that it will regulate free baggage allowance by pieces of baggage instead of the past weight concept (by kg), starting from 1 August 2019.
Special advantages from the new piece concept policy include:
i) Up to 50 per cent discount in the fees for Excess Baggage and Prepaid Baggage on routes with free baggage allowance of 1 piece maximum 23 kg;
ii) Economy Class passengers travelling to/from Europe and Australia to Vietnam could carry one more free piece of checked baggage maximum 23 kg from 1 August to 31 December 2019;
iii) Platinum members of Vietnam Airlines' Frequent Flyer Programme Lotusmiles are entitled to additional two pieces of free baggage allowance; and
iv) Gold and Titanium members of Lotusmiles are entitled to additional one piece of free baggage allowance.
