According to Siborong-Borong Silangit International Airport's web-site and Indonesian newspaper Kompas, Garuda Indonesia plans to launch inaugural chartered flight from Silangit to Singapore on 28 October 2017. Indonesian passengers will return back to Silangit from Singapore on 30 October 2017 under a three days-two nights Singapore tour package designed by a Sumatran tour operator.

A test flight was conducted between Silangit and Singapore on 8 September 2017 to prove that the Silangit Airport is capable to handle landing of B737 aircraft.

Garuda Indonesia will conduct a series of chartered flights from Silangit to Singapore for six months to see if there is enough international market demand for weekly scheduled flights between Singapore and Silangit.

Silangit Airport, located in North Sumatra town of Siborong-Borong, is the nearest gateway to Lake Toba, Samosir, and will compete with Kualanamu International Airport located outside Medan for international air traffic.

Currently, airlines serving Silangit Airport on domestic routes include Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air, Susi Air and Wings Air. Singapore will be the first international destination of Silangit Airport.

Inaugural Flight Schedules:
GA8500 | Silangit - Singapore, 10.15 am to 12.25 pm
GA8510 | Singapore - Silangit, 1.15 pm to 1.30 pm
