Urumqi Air launches flights since 29 August 2014

Urumqi Air, short for Urumqi Airlines Company Limited, has launched its inaugural flight to its first destination outside Xinjiang, Zhengzhou, on 3 September 2014. Regular daily flights to Zhengzhou begin on 4 September. On 29 August 2014, it launches its first two intra-Xinjiang routes, Urumqi - Yining (twice a day) and Urumqi - Kashi (once a day) using  a Boeing B737-800 aircraft.

On 29 August, Urumqi Air flight UQ2515 departs from Urumqi for Yining at 10.15 am, arrives in Yining at 11.20 am before taking off for Urumqi at 11.55 am and arriving in Urumqi at 12.55 pm under UQ2516. The second Yining flight of that day leaves Urumqi at 9.15 pm, arrives in Yining at 10.20 pm under UQ2505 before leaving Yining at 11 pm and touching down in Urumqi at 12.05 am on 30 August under UQ2506.

According to schedules, the first Kashi flight of Urumqi Air departs from Urumqi on 29 August at 2 pm, plans to arrive in Kashi at 3.40 pm under UQ2511 before leaving Kashi at 4.15 pm and arriving in Urumqi at 5.40 pm under UQ2512. However, on the actual day, the flight arrived in Kashi at 4.20 pm, twenty minutes late.

Urumqi Airlines Company Limited is awarded the AOC on 28 August 2014. Its logo is a golden-magenta-green Uyghur Altaic silk thread in the shape of a dove which symbolises luck, happiness and growth of Xinjiang.

Urumqi Air plans to launch flights to Taiyuan on 10 September 2014 as well as to Beijing and Shanghai by end of the year.  Currently, it has three B737-800 jets.  Further B737-800 jets will be added in 2015 to expand its domestic flight network. It has also medium and long-haul plans to launch flights to Tashkent, Almaty, Astana, Bishkek, Dushanbe and Europe from Urumqi.
