On 15 April 2014, Tigerair announced that it is commencing thrice-weekly scheduled flights on 15 May 2014. It will fly to Xi'an on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and return to Singapore from Xi'an on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

On 15 May, Tigerair flight TR2968 leaves Singapore at 6.05 pm, arriving in Xi'an at 11.30 pm after more than 5 hours. As Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is not a 24-hours airport, flight TR2969 departs Xi'an for Singapore on 16 May at 7.45 am, touching down in Singapore at 1.20 pm.

The direct Singapore-Xi'an-Singapore flights end an era of ad hoc indirect charter and scheduled flights between both cities operated by China Eastern.

Xi'an is the sixth Chinese mainland destination for Tigerair after Shenzhen, Haikou, Guangzhou, Lijiang and Ningbo.
