Budget travellers prefer to stay in cheap and comfortable hotels and guesthouses near airports if they are going to board morning flights in the wee hours or before sunrise.
In the last ten years, Sayacinta - Airpost has visited and stayed in several airport budget hotels in Southeast Asia. These budget hotels include TUNE KLIA-LCCT of Kuala Lumpur, Green Mango Inn of Manila, Sengtiane Hotel of Vientiane, Mi Linh Hotel of Ho Chi Minh City, Aerofans Inn of Jakarta and JJ Guesthouse of Medan. In the following and subsequent reports, we select the top 3 Airport Budget Hotels of ASEAN in a decade.
The best airport budget hotels are judged based on the following criteria: accessibility to the airport, hotel appearance, friendliness of the hotel owners and staff, lodging and accommodation facilities, services of the hotel and food and hygiene.
The Best ASEAN Airport Budget Hotel goes to Sengtiane Hotel of Vientiane, Laos, followed by Mi Linh Hotel of Ho Chi Minh City and Aerofans Inn of Jakarta. In the report below, we share with readers the brief reviews on Aerofans Inn and Mi Linh Hotel.
Third winner : Aerofans Inn
The nearest airport hotel of Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is Aerofans Inn. It is located next to the AirAsia Indonesia Head Office building and Sriwijaya Air Head Office.
Located in the Aeropolis industrial centre of the airport district of Cengkareng, Aerofans Inn is less than five years old. It has hourly airport free transfer services from 5 am to 8 pm but departure timings may differ if there are not enough guests. After 8 pm, despite promises to pick up passengers by hotel car, one of the receptionists insists guests to come to the hotel by Blue-Bird taxis. However, since there are long queues at the Blue-Bird taxi stands in the airport, guests end up paying Rp 120,000 by other taxi just to reach the hotel.
Beds are comfortable in the small cosy rooms. Bathroom facilities are up to standard although it takes some guests time to get used to controlling the facilities. There is a wall-screen television but beware of the occasional mosquito flying into the room. Room rates start from 40 Singapore Dollars.
Nutritious breakfast is offered complimentary to guests.

Second winner : Mi Linh Hotel
Mi Linh Hotel, less than five years old, is of a five-minutes walk from CT Plaza where VietJet Air Head Office is located and of a ten-minutes walk from the international terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport of Ho Chi Minh City. It can be risky to walk to the hotel during the day but safe to walk back to the airport before 7 am. The hotel lobby is small but the single room especially the bathroom is spacious. Beds are comfortable in the small cosy rooms with mini-bars and wall-screen televisions.
Breakfast options are not known.
Room rates start from 16 Singapore Dollars per room per night.
Staff are friendly but they may not be proficient in English.
