The Houthi terrorists of Yemen have recently targeted King Khalid International Airport of Riyadh with missile and drone strikes, resulting in the international airport shutdown. They have warned passengers not to travel to Riyadh, Jeddah and other Saudi airports except Medina, the international gateway to Mecca.

Consequently, Riyadh Air as the airline of Riyadh has suspended scheduled flights from Riyadh to KLIA and Suvarnabhumi and its intended plans to increase in flights to Suvarnabhumi from 9 November 2026 to daily flights and launch flight to Cengkareng, Indonesia, have been shelved due to the security crisis.

Besides, Riyadh Air has announced that it has relocated its base of operations from Riyadh to Gassim to avoid Houthi attacks despite the Houthis' blanket threat. To and from Gassim, international passengers can fly with Riyadh Air to and from Cairo, Dhaka, Islamabad, Jeddah, Lahore and London Heathrow. There are return luxury coach rides between Gassim and Riyadh.

Meanwhile, Saudia as the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia is the only airline operating scheduled flights from Riyadh and Jeddah to KLIA and Suvarnabhumi. It has also maintained commercial flights to Changi, Denpasar and other Saudia destinations.
