AirAsia launches non-stop flight from Sibu to Changi on 16 December 2022

Image : Researcher's Picture of an AirAsia A320 at Changi Airport Terminal 4 with a Chinese theme livery. Sibu has many Chinese Malaysian residents and are majority Christian. Prior to the direct flight from Sibu, Sibu tourists have to reach Singapore via either Kuching, Senai or KLIA.

AirAsia launches direct scheduled flight from Sibu to Changi on 16 December 2022 with its Airbus A320 series aircraft, marking the first scheduled service of Sibu Airport to Singapore after 70 years.

Previously, Malayan Airways started operating flight to Sibu from Singapore via Kuching on 1 July 1952 and the route was severed when Malayan Airways was later separated into Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines System.

On 16 December 2022, AirAsia flight AK1411 takes off from Sibu for Changi at 1.40 pm, touches down in Changi at 3.20 pm before leaving Changi for Sibu at 4 pm and landing in Sibu at 5.45 pm under flight AK1410.

The above flights of AirAsia are operated on Fridays, Wednesdays and Mondays.

Sibu is known otherwise as "Swan City" as the symbol of Sibu is the swan. Tourist attractions include the two swan statues, one of which is located in Sibu Gateway surrounded by the 12 Chinese zodiac signs while the other tourist points-of-interest include nine landmarks of Sibu in Sibu Heritage Trail, the Sibu Wharf Terminal, religious places-of-worship, public libraries, ceramic factories, Sibu Airport itself and 9 Awang Bassan Iban longhouses that are 40 minutes away from Sibu.

Sibu's main population are Chinese Malaysians, whose ancestor came from Fuzhou. Majority of the Chinese living in Sibu are Christians, followed by Buddhists, Taoists and Confucianists.
