According to a news report broadcast by Japan’s “UX Niigata TV 21”, Cathay Pacific plans to carry out winter scheduled flights from Hong Kong to Niigata from the start of the winter season in October 2019. The flights will last till end of March 2020.

Flights between Hong Kong and Niigata will be operated on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The reason why Cathay Pacific decided to launch the Niigata route was not disclosed, but according to the Governor of Niigata, the tourism resources of Niigata in winter attracted the airline. He believes that with the approach of the Beijing Winter Olympics, tourists are concerned about the winter snow sports, and the opening of new routes is the recognition of the charm of Niigata's winter tourism.

In 2018, 80 per cent of tourists from Hong Kong travel to Niigata in winter. With the opening of direct flights, the demand for the Niigata tourism market will further increase.

Hong Kong has a large number of  wealthy returning customers to Japan, and thus the Niigata tourism market has full potential. Niigata will become one of the popular destinations for tourists visiting Japan in due time.
