The Indian Aviation regulator DGCA has cancelled the flying permits of Air Carnival, Air Costa and Air Pegasus.

Coimbatore-based Air Carnival's flying permit was cancelled in the first week of June 2017 for failure in providing safe, reliable and efficient flight services since April 2017. At that time its ATR-72 aircraft operated on routes from Coimbatore to Chennai, Trichy and Tuticorin and suspended flights from 6 April 2017 onwards.

Air Carnival was sold to Angel Investors for 70 Indian Rupees. Although Angel Investors will take over Air Carnival in July 2017, no further management activity to operate the airline has been announced.

Three-year-old Vijayawada-based Air Costa's flying permit was cancelled in April 2017 due to lack of cash in continuing to operate its aircraft and lack of investment injected by its investors.

Air Pegasus struggled to resume flight services under the name of FlyEasy from December to March 2017. It did not resume flights in the name of FlyEasy in March. Its flying permit was cancelled.

It may take another six months before India can witness the birth of new domestic airline Yuvajet, short for Yuva JetLines Airways, according to DGCA.

Domestic airlines currently operating in India include Air India, Jet Airways, Spice Jet, AirAsia India, Vistara, IndiGo, GoAir and Trujet.
