According to Malaysian newspaper The Star, Vietjet Air has stopped operating the C909 aircraft since 18 October 2025. Previously, the two aircraft leased from Chengdu Airlines were deployed on routes from Con Dao to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Reasons cited for Vietjet's ceasation of C909 use include high operation costs incurred due to Chengdu Airlines' crew and high aircraft maintenance costs.
Vietjet Air has no plan to extend the use of the leased C909 aircraft. The agreement with Chengdu Airlines to lease and use the aircraft only lasts for six months.
The C909 aircraft is now utilized by TransNusa and Lao Airlines. Air Cambodia and Gallop Air of Brunei have commercial orders of the aircraft from COMAC.
