XiamenAir opens Hangzhou - Melbourne route on 16 December 2017

XiamenAir opens Hangzhou - Melbourne route on 16 December 2017 with one of its B787-800 Dreamliner aircraft.

On 16 December 2017, XiamenAir flight MF813 departs from Hangzhou for Melbourne at 8.15 pm, arrives in Melbourne at 9.45 am on 17 December 2017 before leaving Melbourne for Hangzhou at 11.35 am and touching down in Hangzhou at 6.55 pm under flight MF814.

XiamenAir's flights depart from Hangzhou for Melbourne on Wednesdays and Saturdays while its flights take off from Melbourne for Hangzhou on Thursdays and Sundays.

XiamenAir continues to operate direct flights from Xiamen to Melbourne.

Air Kiribati receives its first Dash 8 100 aircraft on 31 October 2017

Air Kiribati, the national airline of Kiribati in the Pacific, has received its first new Dash 8 100 series aircraft which has touched down at Bonriki International Airport from Canada on 31 October 2017 at Kiribati local time. With 37 passenger seats, the aircraft is pressurised and will have inflight cabin service. 

Air Kiribati said it now needs to undertake to obtain the necessary registrations and licencing from the Kiribati civil aviation authority for the Dash 8 100 series to be utilized on domestic and short haul international routes from Tarawa. This includes over 100 hours of proving flights before it is able to initiate the aircraft's first scheduled flight.

China Eastern launches flight from Yantai to Singapore via Fuzhou on 31 October 2017

China Eastern Airlines launches scheduled flight to Singapore from Yantai via Fuzhou on 31 October 2017 using its Airbus A320 aircraft.

On 31 October 2017, China Eastern flight MU2045 departs from Yantai for Singapore via Fuzhou at 5.10 pm, transits in Fuzhou for passenger immigration checks at 7.40 pm before taking off from Fuzhou for Singapore at 9 pm and touching down in Singapore at 2 am on 1 November 2017.

On 1 November 2017, flight MU2046 leaves Singapore for Yantai via Fuzhou at 3 am, transits in Fuzhou at 7.10 am before departing from Fuzhou for Yantai at 8.35 am and arriving in Yantai at 11 am in the same morning.

China Eastern Airlines operates flights from Yantai and Fuzhou to Singapore on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays while its flights leaving for Fuzhou and Yantai depart from Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Besides the flights to Fuzhou and Yantai from 1 November 2017, China Eastern also operates the following routes from Singapore : Singapore - Pudong, Singapore - Changchun, Singapore - Kunming - Lanzhou and Singapore - Hangzhou - Quanzhou.

28 October 2017 marks the final day XiamenAir has flown to Hangzhou from Singapore as its sister airline Hebei Airlines launches flight to Singapore from Shijiazhuang via Hangzhou on 29 October 2017 (Sunday) and takes over the Singapore Changi Airport slot from XiamenAir.

XiamenAir continues to fly from Singapore to Xiamen, Fuzhou, Dalian and Xi'an Xianyang.

Congratulations to Hebei Airlines on its inaugural flight to Singapore on 29 October 2017!

Choose Hebei Airlines for comfortable flights to Hangzhou and Shijiazhuang now. Hebei Airlines has opened the new route to Singapore to meet the travel demand of Chinese tourists, expatriates and students of Hebei Province. Shijiazhuang is the capital of Hebei Province. At 5 pm on 29 October 2017, Hebei Airlines flight NS3528 leaves Singapore for Shijiazhuang via Hangzhou, arrives in Hangzhou at 9.50 pm for transit passengers to alight before embarking on the homeward bound journey for Shijiazhuang at 11.20 pm and arriving in Shijiazhuang at 1.25 am on 30 October 2017.


To celebrate the launch of daily scheduled flight to its second international destination Singapore, Hebei Airlines is selling budget return air fare of 600 Yuan (123 Singapore Dollars) for three to four days' stay in Singapore and return air fare of 500 Yuan (103 Singapore Dollars) for five days' stay in Singapore, excluding taxes and surcharges, for travel until 31 December 2017.

Flying to Shijiazhuang from Singapore is cheaper than flying direct to Tianjin, Zhengzhou with Scoot and Beijing with Air China and Singapore Airlines.

Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport is the headquarters airport of Hebei Airlines with flights operating from T1 (for international flights) and T2 (for domestic flights). All flights to Shijiazhuang land in this airport. 



Hebei Airlines Head Office is located near T1 and Shijiazhuang Zhengding Airport bullet train station (known also as T3). 




Upon arrival in Shijiazhuang from Singapore, stay at the nearest Airport Hotel before embarking on any one-hour trip to Beijing West Train Station in the morning by bullet train from Shijiazhuang Zhengding Airport Station. 

Near Beijing West Train Station are famous Beijing tourist destinations such as Yuyuantan Park, Millennium Monument, Military Museum, Capital Museum and Baiyun Temple.

Overall Impression :  Hebei Airlines is a good three-star budget full-service airline. Its inflight service quality standard is higher than Hainan Airlines, Capital Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines and Loong Air, and it is as good as XiamenAir. However, it should conduct all-year-round marketing activities together with XiamenAir in international destinations to raise awareness of its Shijiazhuang flights and travel products.

Scoot flies to Palembang four times a week from 23 November 2017

Scoot, operated by Scoot Tigerair Pte Ltd, flies to Palembang from Singapore four times a week from 23 November 2017 using either an Airbus A320 or an A319 aircraft, after inheriting the route from SilkAir.

On 23 November 2017, Scoot flight TR250 departs from Singapore for Palembang at 10.30 am, arrives in Palembang at 10.40 am before leaving Palembang for Singapore at 11.20 am and touching down in Singapore at 1.30 pm under flight TR251. This return flight schedule is for Thursday flights of the route.


On 25 November 2017 and all other Saturdays, flight TR250 leaves Singapore for Palembang at 11.05 am, arrives in Palembang at 11.15 am local time before departing from Palembang for Singapore  at 11.55 am and arriving in Singapore at 2.25 pm under flight TR251.

On Sundays (commencing 26 November 2017) and Tuesdays (starting 28 November 2017), flight TR250 departs from Singapore for Palembang at 3 pm, arrives in Palembang at 3.10 pm before leaving Palembang for Singapore at 3.50 pm and landing in Singapore at 6.15 pm under flight TR251.

Scoot Tigerair Pte Ltd faces direct competition on the route from Jetstar Asia Airways.

VietJet Air's new international routes from December 2017

VietJet Air has begun to sell online tickets of three new routes that will be operated on a scheduled basis from December 2017, while online ticket sales of the much-anticipated Ho Chi Minh City-Jakarta flight that commences on 20 December 2017* are on hold. 

The three new routes are Nha Trang - Incheon, commencing 6 December 2017, Ho Chi Minh City - Chiang Mai and Ho Chi Minh City - Phuket, to be launched on 12 and 15 December 2017 respectively. 

Airbus A320 aircraft will be deployed on the routes to the two Thai cities from Ho Chi Minh City while an A321 aircraft will fly on the route to Incheon from Nha Trang.

Starting 6 December 2017, VietJet Air flight VJ838 departs from Nha Trang for Incheon at 4.15 pm, arrives in Incheon at 10.45 pm before leaving Incheon for Nha Trang at 1.50 am on 7 December 2017 and touching down in Nha Trang at 5.25 am under flight VJ839. 

Direct flights from Nha Trang to Incheon are operated on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays while the flights to Nha Trang from Incheon are on Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays.

The Nha Trang - Incheon route is Nha Trang Airport's first international scheduled link with a South Korean airport and VietJet Air's first international scheduled service from Nha Trang. 

Currently, VietJet Air operates charter flights from Nha Trang to Hangzhou, Ningbo, Pudong, Tianjin, Wuhan and Wuxi and domestic scheduled flights from Nha Trang.

On 12 December 2017, flight VJ891 leaves Ho Chi Minh City for Chiang Mai at 11.35 am, touches down in Chiang Mai at 1.30 pm before departing from Chiang Mai for Ho Chi Minh City at 2.20 pm and arriving in Ho Chi Minh City at 4.25 pm under flight VJ892. Flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Chiang Mai are operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Commencing 15 December 2017, flight VJ809 departs from Ho Chi Minh City for Phuket at 10.15 am, lands in Phuket at 12.10 pm local time and takes off under flight VJ808 from Phuket at 2.20 pm and touches down in Ho Chi Minh City at 4.25 pm.

Tourists from Hong Kong can connect to VietJet Air's new flights to Chiang Mai and Phuket via Ho Chi Minh City, according to VietJet Air and its media representative Media Services HK.

With the opening of the new routes to Chiang Mai and Phuket, VietJet Air operates six routes to Thailand including routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Suvarnabhumi.

To celebrate the two new Thai route launches, VietJet Air offers 180,000 online free promotional tickets on www.vietjetair.com between 1 pm and 3 pm until 27 October 2017.  Airport taxes and surcharges are to be paid upon booking. These tickets are applicable on all VietJet international routes including Hong Kong - Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh - Ho Chi Minh City, Siem Reap - Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore - Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore - Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur - Ho Chi Minh City.  Payment can be easily made with debit and credit cards of VISA, Master, AMEX, JCP and KCP.

The promotions' travel period is from 1 November 2017 to 31 May 2018, excluding public holidays, and are subject to the effective dates of flight operations.

Special Spotlight on ITB Asia 10th Anniversary travel trade show

Introduction Singapore's only annual international travel trade show ITB Asia marks tenth Anniversary on 25 October 2017 at Sands Expo & Convention Centre featuring first-time exhibitors Icelandair, Cape Town Helicopters, Coastal Aviation,  Rwanda Development Board, second-time exhibitor Singapore Airlines and regular exhibitors such as Bangkok Airways, Vietnam Airlines and Le Voyageur. The pictures and reports below identify some of the booths of these listed exhibitors. 



Iceland travel trade delegation updates

ITB Asia considers the Iceland travel trade delegation as first-time exhibitors in its ten years of history. The Icelandic travel trade delegation team that are exploring travel trade partnership opportunities in ITB Asia is named Promote Iceland (Booth M15).

Icelandair exhibits in ITB Asia for the first-time this year, together with some Icelandic travel and tour operators at Hall E Booth M15, not Booth M17, since Wow Air withdrew from Booth M15. Booth M17 is occupied by Iceland & Greenland Travel.

Icelandair flight from Iceland's capital Reykjavik to Dublin commences on 8 May 2018 but detailed schedules are not confirmed yet. The airline booth spokesman said tickets for the Reykjavik-Dublin-Reykjavik route sectors may be available for online sale on its web-site next week.



Singapore Airlines and its 70th Anniversary
Singapore Airlines' booth (Hall D Booth Q30) at ITB Asia 2017 is the largest airline exhibitor booth. As the official partner country of ITB Asia 2017 is Singapore and the country theme is Singapore, Singapore Airlines booth gains sufficient attention. However, to media disappointment, 70th Anniversary giveaways have not been produced for the travel trade show and the 70th Anniversary logo at the booth is not visible.

2017 is a milestone year for Singapore Tourism Board (STB), with Singapore as the home of ITB Asia for the tenth time, According to the ITB Asia 2017 Organizer, with the recent launch of STB’s unified brand with Economic Development Board (EDB) under the motto Passion Made Possible, STB has reinvented the way it presents the city with a blockbuster line-up of activities to share Singapore’s spirit and passions with delegates, and inspire visitors to discover the city and deepen their own passions.




Singapore Pavilion
The Singapore Pavilion at Booth F05, Hall F brings the best of Singapore directly onto the exhibition show floor, celebrating the core values of Passion Made Possible through a spatial experience comprising live performances, art showcases and interactive workshops. It weaves together multiple Singapore stories into a multi-sensory experience, to appeal to the varied interests of delegates while serving as a platform to showcase Singapore’s talents and their passions.




Bangkok Airways and Vietnam Airlines above have been exhibiting in ITB Asia since the travel exposition started 10 years ago. 



Madagascar tour operator booth space expanded

Le Voyageur, the major travel and tour operator from Madagascar has expanded its booth space this year by introducing its Mauritius partner Connections DMC with offices in Mauritius and Reunion. With Connections DMC, Le Voyageur will be able to receive and serve more Asian tourists arriving in Antannanarivo via Mauritius and Reunion and vice versa.

Air Austral flies to Reunion from Mauritius, Chennai and Suvarnabhumi while Air Mauritius flies to Mauritius from cities including Singapore, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Air Madagascar flies between Mauritius and Antannanarivo.




Unexpected increase in number of African travel trade exhibitors

There is an exceptional growth of 25 per cent in the number of African travel trade exhibitors this year compared to 2016. Examples are Cape Town Helicopters, Coastal Aviation, Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Kenya Tourism Board, Kenya Airways, and African travel operators from Tanzania, Tunisia, Botswana, South Africa and Sudan.




About Cape Town Helicopters
Cape Town Helicopters is the third helicopter company to have exhibited in ITB Asia after regulars Maverick Helicopters and Sundance Helicopters of the US. It distributes copies of its latest flight portfolio at ITB Asia 2017 and the latest travel rates.



Cape Town Helicopters was formerly a flight survey company. In 2010 it started to operate tourist helicopter flights in Cape Town, South Africa using a fleet of Airbus H120 and H130 helicopters. Scenic flights around Cape Town Stadium, the Atlantic Coast to the Twelve Apostles, around Table Mountain, Cape Peninsula to False Bay are operated all-year round. They provide twenty-minutes flights to the unrivaled Robben Island to see the Prison and other landmarks.




Coastal Aviation a private safari airline from Tanzania exhibits for the first time at ITB Asia 2017 under the Africa Pavilion (Hall E Booth K50). It flies to 42 destinations in Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique and Rwanda. Route maps are distributed.






RDB markets Rwanda tourism and RwandAir to Singapore


RDB department Rwanda Tourism markets Kigali, other Rwandan cities and Rwanda tourist attractions and cultures for the first time in Singapore at Hall F Booth D55, endeavouring to promote Rwanda as an emerging attractive African country travel market to Asia. It also promotes public awareness of Rwanda's national airline RwandAir.



Kigali known as the "Phnom Penh of East Africa" has tourist destinations that were built to remember the Rwanda Genocide in 1994. These are the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Camp Kigali Belgian Monument and the Presidential Palace now a museum located near Kigali airport. The well-known Kigali tourist destination is the Natural History Museum-Kandt House, that honours Dr Richard Kandt, who explored Rwanda in 1897 and founded Kigali in 1908 as the administrative centre of German East Africa, and houses samples of Rwanda's flora and fauna, to show Rwanda's natural history, geology and biology history. 

Common East African Community entry visa




Rwanda Tourism and Kenya Tourism Board mention tourists can apply for three East Africa countries' common East African Community entry visa at any of the embassies and consulates of Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya at 100 US Dollars and enter Kigali, Entebbe and Nairobi and other ports-of-entry of these counties with this visa. Singaporeans travelling to Rwanda and Kenya do not need entry visas for a stay of up to three months and one month respectively. Singaporean tourists can stay as long as they want in Uganda without an entry visa. 


How to fly to Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya
Ethiopian Airlines flies from Singapore to Addis Ababa where there are convenient Ethiopian onward flights to Kigali, Entebbe and Nairobi. 

Kenya Airways flies from Suvarnabhumi and Guangzhou to Nairobi where there are convenient flight connections to Entebbe and Kigali.

RwandAir flies weekly from Mumbai to Kigali on a scheduled basis. It also flies non-stop from London-Gatwick to Kigali. Tourists from Singapore can fly to London-Gatwick with low-cost airline Norwegian Air UK to London-Gatwick and connect to RwandAir's flights to Kigali.



RwandAir's new routes on and after 31 October 2017


Starting 31 October 2017, RwandAir launches direct flight between Brussels and Kigali using its A330-200 / A330-300 aircraft with flight WB700 departing from Kigali for Brussels at 8.10 am, arriving in Brussels at 3.50 pm local time before taking off for Kigali at 9.40 pm under flight WB701 and touching down in Kigali at 7 am local time (the Brussels-Kigali flight has been re-timed on 27 October 2017). Flights are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with different return flight schedules on Fridays, and are subject to changes without notice.

According to RDB, RwandAir is planning to introduce flights to Guangzhou by December 2017 via Mumbai and long-haul flights to New York possibly via London-Gatwick in 2018.

Due to an increase in the number of African exhibitors, regular ITB Asia exhibitors from the UAE, Qatar, Iran, Egypt, Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Uzbekistan did not appear for the first time.





ITB Asia 2017 comes to a close before evening of 27 October 2017. The next edition of ITB Asia takes place at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, on 17 October 2018 and ends on 19 October 2018.

The first two-way flights of Changi Airport T4 on 31 October 2017

Changi Airport on 24 October 2017 announced the first inbound and outbound pair of flights in Changi Airport T4 on 31 October 2017 besides the operational-readiness of the new terminal.

Cathay Pacific Airways flight CX659 departs from Hong Kong for Changi Airport T4 at 1.50 am, arrives in Changi Airport T4 at expected time 5.40 am before leaving T4 for Hong Kong at 6.50 am and touches down in Hong Kong at 10.45 am under flight CX650.

CX659/CX650 are operated by an Airbus A330-300 aircraft of Cathay Pacific.

An official ceremony will definitely be held to welcome  Changi Airport T4's first pair of inbound and outbound commercial flights operated by the Hong Kong airline.

Changi Airport on today's final rehearsal of T4 operations also said that Changi T4 will have 3000 workers by 7 November 2017. 



As a reminder, Vietnam Airlines and AirAsia Group of airlines launch operations at T4 on 7 November 2017 while Cebu Pacific Air and Spring Airlines start operating at T4 on 2 November 2017. Korean Air is the second airline to touch down at T4 on 31 October 2017.

Direction signs have been erected at T1 and T3 alerting passengers to go to T4 to check-in for T4 flights. Look for the direction sign after exiting from Changi Airport MRT and walk along the path to reach the bus stop at T2 near Lao Airlines branch office for complimentary bus shuttle services to T4.

As part of the design of T4, staff-centred amenities have been incorporated in the terminal for a more conducive working environment for the terminal community. These include ergonomically-designed work stations, small freight lifts for transporting wheelchairs and strollers at the apron area of aircraft stands, and staff lounges.
