Cathay Pacific has announced that it is launching Hong Kong's first direct flight to Dublin, the capital and largest commercial city of Ireland, on 2 June 2018 using its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The Hong Kong-Dublin route may probably be Asia's first if Hainan Airlines introduced the Beijing-Dublin Shannon route later in 2018.

Dublin is one of the three new European destinations Cathay Pacific will start flying to in 2018. The other two destinations are Brussels on 25 March 2018 and Copenhagen from 2 May to 12 October 2018.

On 2 June 2018, Cathay Pacific flight CX307 departs from Hong Kong for Dublin at 12.50 am, arrives in Dublin at 6.45 am before leaving Dublin for Hong Kong at 11.55 am and touching down in Hong Kong at 7.05 am under flight CX306 on 3 June 2018.

The flights between Hong Kong and Dublin will be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 2 June 2018 and end of the summer season in October 2018. During the winter season of 2018, CX307 plans to leave Hong Kong for Dublin at 12.15 am, arrives in Dublin at 5.30 am before commencing on the return journey to Hong Kong at 11 am and touching down in Hong Kong at 7.30 am under flight CX306.

To mark the launch of commercial flight from Hong Kong to Dublin, passengers who booked with Cathay Pacific for the flight in due course may take advantage from a complimentary pint of Guinness from Guinness Breweries which is factored in the cost of the ticket.

Guinness is the famous brand of Ireland's stout beer and Ireland is the home origin of the Guinness' World Records.

Dublin has many Europe's great sporting, music and nightlife centres and historic sights such as St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Trinity College and the Docklands are within reach of land transport access from Dublin Airport.

Cathay Pacific's announcement of the inaugural flight to Dublin has won applause and encouraging response from Dublin Airport and the travel and tourism industry of Ireland.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said, The new Cathay Pacific service will help further to open up important tourism and business opportunities for Ireland in Hong Kong and China, in Australia and New Zealand and across the Asia Pacific region."

He further added, “We look forward to working closely with Cathay Pacific, Dublin Airport Authority and other tourism interests, to maximise the promotion of this new service to Dublin. As an island, the importance of air and sea access cannot be overstated – they are critical to achieving growth in visitor numbers."

In 2016, more than 600,000 visitors from Australia and Asia came to Ireland, an increase of more than 4 per cent from 2015.
