AirAsia Group Berhad (hereinafter referred to as "AirAsia Group" or the "Group") has successfully changed its name from "AirAsia X Berhad" to its current name. The name change proposal was approved by shareholders at the 19th Annual General Meeting held on 25 June 2026, and subsequently registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM). The new name officially took effect on 2 July 2026.
This name change is not merely an update to the company name; it signifies AirAsia Group's transformation into a stronger and more unified airline group, aiming to seize the next wave of growth opportunities in the Asian and global aviation industry. This integration further clarifies AirAsia's vision of becoming the world's first low-cost network airline, combining greater scale advantages with route connectivity and the brand's signature high cost-performance, flexible, and efficient operational characteristics. This will help the Group optimize its route network, improve operational efficiency, and continuously lower the barriers to air travel, making air travel more accessible to millions of passengers.
Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, Independent Non-Executive Chairman of the AirAsia Group, said: “The shareholders’ approval of this name change fully demonstrates their confidence in the Group’s development vision and strategic direction. This important move is not only a change of name, but also a significant milestone for AirAsia towards its vision of becoming the world’s first low-cost network airline. By integrating the Group’s aviation businesses, we will fully leverage the synergies and overall potential of our short- and medium-haul network, further enhance route connectivity, provide passengers with a seamless travel experience, and create greater value for regional and global travelers.
“With a larger fleet, a broader route network, and stronger connectivity, we are well-positioned to capitalize on future growth opportunities and continue to create greater value for shareholders, stakeholders, and passengers. As global travel demand continues to shift towards Asia and ASEAN, we are leveraging our strong capabilities to enter a new chapter of development. Upholding AirAsia’s entrepreneurial spirit, relying on sound corporate governance, rigorous and efficient execution, and the unwavering dedication of all AirAsia employees, we are confident in continuously promoting the popularization of air travel, achieving long-term sustainable development, and building a world-class aviation group for the future.”
