Since initiating its business restructuring in April 2023, Hong Kong Airlines has made a new mark on the skies. After more than two years of dedicated effort, this Hong Kong-based airline has not only strategically expanded its route network but also made comprehensive strides in fleet modernization and service innovation, demonstrating strong resilience and brand vitality.
In April 2023, Hong Kong Airlines announced the launch of its restructuring plan through the acquisition of a strategic investment fund, aiming to continuously improve its financial situation, accelerate business recovery, and put the company back on a healthy operating track.
At the outset of the restructuring, Hong Kong Airlines pledged to continue focusing on business recovery and development, strategically planning its route network and adjusting its fleet to provide customers with more travel options and high-quality services, and to strengthen Hong Kong's important role as an international aviation hub.
Now, more than two years later, Hong Kong Airlines has gradually delivered on its commitments in terms of fleet size, route network, and services.
Following its restructuring, Hong Kong Airlines continues to leverage its advantages of being "based in Hong Kong, backed by the motherland, and connected to the world," adopting a route network development strategy of "consolidating regional presence and steadily expanding long-haul routes."
Regarding its regional route network, between 2024 and 2025, Hong Kong Airlines launched new routes to Xi'an Xianyang (Shaanxi) and Hulunbuir (Inner Mongolia), increased the frequency of flights on key mainland routes such as Pudong, Hangzhou and Nanjing, and resumed seasonal flights to Male.
To further strengthen its Asian route network, Hong Kong Airlines is resuming daily direct flights between Hong Kong and Hanoi from 19 December 2025.
On 19 December 2025, Hong Kong Airlines flight HX528 departs from Hong Kong for Hanoi at 5.40 pm, touches down in Hanoi at 6.50 pm before leaving Hanoi under flight HX529 at 7.50 pm and arriving in Hong Kong at 8.50 pm.
Flights are operated with A320/A321 aircraft.
While focusing on rebuilding its regional network, increasing flight frequencies to major cities in Southeast Asia and mainland China, and reconnecting business and tourism hotspots, Hong Kong Airlines is also firmly taking steps towards internationalization, actively transforming from a regional airline into an international airline.
In late 2024, Hong Kong Airlines announced its return to the international market, and in January 2025, it resumed intercontinental routes to the Gold Coast in Australia and Vancouver in Canada. In June 2025, it launched daily direct flights to Sydney, and in December, it added flights between Hong Kong and Melbourne, creating a multi-destination network within Australia.
Currently, Hong Kong Airlines' route network extensively covers more than 30 major cities in the Asia-Pacific and North America regions. It has also renewed and expanded codeshare agreements with several international airlines, including Turkish Airlines, Etihad Airways and WestJet, providing passengers with a wider range of flexible travel options.
