Queensland Government bids for Virgin Australia

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the Queensland Government of Australia intends to purchase Virgin Australia, which is currently in voluntary administration, or cooperate with other bidders to ensure that the Virgin headquarters remains in its capital, Brisbane, and provide employment for the locals.

The Queensland State Government announced its participation in the bidding before 15 May 2020, the deadline for the indicative bid for Virgin Atlantic. The state government has authorized the investment agency Queensland Investment Company (QIC) to review the feasibility of bidding for Virgin.

Queensland Finance Minister Cameron Dick said he hopes to retain the 5,000 jobs Virgin Atlantic brings to the local community and ensure that Virgin ’s headquarters remain in Brisbane. He said, "This is the moment for the government to take action to secure and create job opportunities."
