According to the Airbus official website, on 21 December 2018, local time at the Airbus Mirabel assembly line, Air Tanzania received its first Airbus A220-300 aircraft. It is the launch operator of the A220 in Africa and the fifth user of the A220 in the world.
The A220 aircraft will help Air Tanzania expand its domestic routes and launch flights to Mumbai and the Middle East.
Complementing the A320 family of aircraft, the A220-100 and A220-300 aircraft cover the 100- to 150-seat market and offer comfortable five-seat cabins per row. With state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, carbon fiber reinforced composites, and Pratt & Whitney's latest generation PW1500G geared engine and fly-by-wire control system, the A220 can reduce fuel consumption by 20 per cent compared to previous generation aircraft.
To date, the A220 has received more than 400 orders.
