AirAsia Berhad launches its first new route service to Bintulu, a developing city and airport in Sarawak, from Changi Airport T4 on 27 December 2017. Its A320 aircraft operates on the route on Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.
On 27 December 2017, AirAsia flight AK1284 departs from Singapore for Bintulu at 9.10 am, arrives in Bintulu at 11 am before leaving Bintulu for Singapore at 11.25 am and touching down in Singapore Changi Airport T4 at 1.15 pm under flight AK1285.
Bintulu airport, underutilized, can handle B747, A330 aircraft flights. The new A320 service to Singapore will be Bintulu's first international route and passengers from Bintulu do not need to transit in Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Senai for onward travel to Singapore.
With the addition of Bintulu to T4's route network, AirAsia branch in Singapore operates seven Malaysian routes from T4 as of 27 December 2017, including Miri, Langkawi, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Penang.

Nicknamed "the Energy Town of Sarawak", Bintulu's famous Sarawak tourist destinations include Similajau National Park (home to Tongkat Ali, Rafflesia and black hornbills), Tumbina Park, Bintulu Tua Pek Kong Temple and Assyakirin Mosque.
