At the opening press conference on 23 October, Dr Christian Gloke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH, reported that 37% of trade visitors this year came from non-Asian countries. Last year, 25% of trade visitors came from continents outside Asia.
In the first eight months of 2013, Myanmar registers a 46% increase in international arrivals. Malaysia is second, witnessing a 25% increase in international arrivals compared to last year. Thailand (21%) and Singapore (8.5%) follow. In contrast, China registers a fall of 5% in international arrivals after a few years of increasing travel expenditure by Chinese tourists abroad.
