Air Guilin has resumed flight operations since 1 February 2024 and goes independent of HNA

Report, image by : Gan Yung Cyan, KUCINTA SETIA

Image : Researcher's Picture

At night of 7 February 2024, Air Guilin Weibo issued a statement from the controlling shareholder Guilin Transportation Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd., "Our company is a wholly state-owned enterprise in Guilin. It is Air Guilin Co., Ltd. approved by the national civil aviation regulatory department and registered by the market regulatory department in accordance with the law. The legal controlling shareholder of the company (hereinafter referred to as "Air Guilin"). Over the years, it has actually fulfilled its obligations as a controlling shareholder, ensuring the smooth operation and development of Air Guilin."

In recent months, Air Guilin, with its own efforts and support from all parties, has successfully completed the establishment and upgrade of the maintenance system and operation system. After strict review and acceptance by the national civil aviation regulatory authorities, it has obtained permission to resume flights in accordance with regulations and laws. It has resumed flights on 1 February 2024 and fully commit to safe operations.

Air Guilin is not controlled by the bankrupt and reorganized HNA Group (private enterprise), nor is it among the 321 companies that were merged and reorganized by the original HNA Group. Issues involving legal aspects will be handled by judicial authorities in accordance with the law. The airline will make every effort to protect state-owned assets from being lost.

In the early morning of 7 February 2024, HNA Aviation Group issued a statement stating that it has learned that Air Guilin has resumed flights on 1 February 2024. The decision to resume flights was entirely made unilaterally by Guilin without consulting the company as the actual controlling shareholder. The company was not involved in the preparations for the resumption of flights and the subsequent safety, service, operation and other production and operation management companies, and the company and the companies in the system did not provide relevant service guarantees.

HNA Aviation Group emphasized that Air Guilin has essentially been operating "off the grid" for a long time. The company is unable to implement any control over Air Guilin and does not participate in its safe operation management and guarantee, all its safety, service, operation, management and other responsibilities that have nothing to do with HNA Aviation Group.

According to Air Finance Journal, Air Guilin's first resumption flight on 1 February 2024 is its route from Guilin to Tianjin. As flights of Air Guilin are not tracked on-line, it is believed the flights are merely charter flights.
