Japanese budget airline ZIPAIR Tokyo (also Zipair) said on 16 June 2022 that it would drop its aircraft tail logo with the letter Z, a pro-war symbol often seen on Russian military vehicles, to avoid misunderstandings.

Shingo Nishida, president of the wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan Airlines, told a news conference at Narita Airport near Tokyo that some might see the Z sign on its Dreamliner 787-8 jets as a sign that the company agrees with Russia's pro-Ukraine invasion stance. "I think some people might feel that way when they see it without any explanation."

Zipair says the new logo is a geometric pattern made from a combination of green, black and white, reminiscence of a zip linen pattern. It has gone virtually live on its web-site. The airline revealed the new tail livery will begin with a decal version (see below) for launch on 18 June 2022 (Saturday).

The newly painted aircraft livery (below) will be progressively introduced in December 2022 and is expected to be completed by Spring 2023.

Zipair, which started operations in 2020, is a short/long-haul budget airline specializing in international flights to Incheon, Changi, Suvarnabhumi, Honolulu and by 1 July 2022 to Los Angeles from Narita. In December 2022, it plans to launch direct scheduled flight to San Jose, U.S., with ticket sales starting in autumn of 2022. By 2023, the 787-8 aircraft on the routes will have spotted the newly painted tail livery.
