Namibia’s Finance Minister Ipombu Simi said on 11 February 2021 that the government agreed to a voluntary liquidation of the national airline Air Namibia.

Simi said at a news conference held in the capital Windhoek that relevant data show that Air Namibia has been losing money since its establishment. The Namibian government has spent about 8 billion Namibian Dollars (about 550 million U.S. Dollars) to subsidize the company but still does not see the possibility of profit.

Air Namibia issued a statement on 11 February, canceling all the company's flights, and the ticket reservation system has also stopped working at the same time.

The Namibian government had previously approached some well-known international airlines but no company was willing to acquire this airline.
