According to The Bangkok Post on 24 February 2025, Nok Air, the subsidiary of Thai Airways International, plans to increase flight frequencies to Hyderabad and Mumbai, which it currently serves eight flights per week, and explores new routes to India from Don Mueang.
Taiwan, Singapore and Japan are prospective new country destinations for Nok Air, that is studying the possibility of "offering either direct flights or relying on the fifth-freedom agreement, enabling it to drop off passengers at a destination before flying to Japan".
At the meantime, Nok Air plans to increase flights to Phuket from Don Mueang and maximise traffic to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
Fleet-wise, Nok Air plans to lease planes via aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance agreements, aiming up to four aircraft year by year.
Nok Air has studied new turboprop aircraft to replace retired Bombardier Q400 planes but turboprops are more expensive to operate than jets.
The airline's fleet currently consists of 14 Boeing B737-800 jets. Nok Air is taking delivery of six Boeing 737 MAX aircraft within four years to expand its route coverage.
