Hawaiian Airlines will be acquired by Alaska Airlines

According to Simpleflying, Alaska Airlines has agreed to acquire Hawaiian Airlines for US$1.9 billion in cash and debt. Alaska Airlines will pay $18 per share in cash and assume about $900 million in Hawaiian Airlines debt, according to a statement Sunday.

Alaska Airlines Group's acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines will significantly increase the number of unique destinations served to and from Hawaii, surpassing competitors such as United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. The merger will also increase the fleet size of the three airlines to 365 aircraft. For Hawaiian Airlines employees, Honolulu will serve as a hub for the Alaska Airlines Group and promises to maintain and grow jobs.
