DCAA: Air India Express to bear all medical and quarantine expenses for covid patients

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA

From 18 September 2020, Air India Express’ flights to Dubai are suspended for 15 days because the airline has allowed covid patients diagnosed to fly to Dubai twice.

According to India Today, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) issued a notice that from 18 September to 3 October 2020, Air India Express’ flights to Dubai will be temporarily suspended. At the same time, Air India Express will be punished and bear all medical and quarantine expenses for covid patients who previously arrived in Dubai by plane.

DCAA accused Air India Express of saying that even if the two covid patients have been reported to have tested positive, the company still let them fly, "You know that we had previously implied in a letter on 2 September that a registered passenger carried SARS-CoV-2 will endanger the lives of other passengers on the plane and cause serious health risks." It also stated that allowing covid patients to board the aircraft violated the relevant regulations on air travel to and from Dubai under the epidemic.

The Indian media said that in order to resume flights to Dubai, Air India Express was required to submit detailed corrective measures or procedures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
