Myanmar National Airlines to cooperate its domestic flight operations with two other airlines

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan
                  / KUCINTA SETIA
Distributed to All Press & Travel Professionals

According to Myanmar National Airlines, it has held meetings with Golden Myanmar Airlines and Mann Yadanarpon Airlines, the two other Myanmar airlines, on cooperating their domestic flight operations.

The new domestic flight cooperative operation will take effect in June 2018.

Myanmar National Airlines, formerly Myanma Airways, flies to 28 domestic cities and 7 international cities including Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Gaya, Kunming and Chengdu while Golden Myanmar Airlines, the only low-cost airline of Myanmar, has a domestic route network of 14 cities. Mann Yadanarpon Airlines flies to 22 domestic cities.

Myanmar National Airlines code-shares with Mann Yadanarpon Airlines on domestic routes to Heho, Mandalay and Nyaung U from Yangon.

The three Myanmar airlines agree to cooperate their domestic operations due to fallen earnings and insufficient number of domestic flight passengers to avert closure of their domestic flight businesses. They cannot afford to lower domestic flight ticket prices since on average there are only 10 passengers per domestic flight.

It is the airlines' wish that cooperative operation will lead to lower operational costs and more passengers on each flight.

In the last three months or so, three Myanmar domestic airlines have suspended all flight operations indefinitely due to losses, including Air Bagan, Air Mandalay and Asian Wings Airways.

Aeromexico has plan to launch flight to Beijing from Mexico City but the launch date is not confirmed yet. Currently, its only China link is its route connecting Mexico City and Tijuana with Shanghai-Pudong.
