Starlux Airlines to receive 14 new aircraft in 2026, develops Taichung as its second base

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA      Image of Starlux's third and fourth A350-1000 : Starlux Airlines

Starlux Airlines Chief Strategy Officer Liu Yun-fu stated that Starlux will take delivery of 14 aircraft in 2026. The increased capacity must be utilized by opening new destinations or otherwise, the airline risks storing idle aircraft. In addition to increasing flights to existing destinations, a fourth aircraft is planned to be deployed at Taichung Airport in late March for the summer schedule, along with additional routes.

On 28 January 2026, after the launch of Starlux's brand project "STARLUX AIRSORAYAMA Art Project," Liu Yun-fu indicated that due to the higher number of flights and flight schedules at Taoyuan Airport, the airline is developing Taichung Airport as its second operating base.

Liu Yun-fu analyzed that compared to departing from Taichung late at night to Taoyuan Airport for an early morning flight, departing from Taichung Airport offers a significant time cost advantage, and its convenience justifies the higher ticket price compared to the High Speed Rail.

Strategically, Taichung Airport has a vast passenger base, reaching south to Chiayi and north to Miaoli, while also covering central Taiwan counties such as Nantou and Changhua. Furthermore, Taichung itself has a large population, representing a huge potential customer base. Kaohsiung's passenger base extends primarily south and east, and the Kaohsiung Airport market is mature and highly competitive, with China Airlines and numerous low-cost carriers already operating there, making major routes nearly saturated.

Furthermore, Liu Yun-fu stated that the high-tech industrial clusters of the Central Taiwan Science Park and TSMC have brought stable business and tourism demand to Taichung. Even for travellers from Hsinchu, Taichung Airport is a convenient option. Taking all factors into consideration, Taichung Airport has become Starlux Airlines' second operating base, providing a solid foundation for its route network deployment.

Starlux Airlines to launch flights to Busan and Europe in the second half of 2026

Reporter, photo copyright by : Wang Yi-hong / Image : Starlux Airlines held a grand launch event yesterday in Omotesando, a fashion landmark in Tokyo, officially unveiling its brand project, "STARLUX AIRSORAYAMA Art Project."

Starlux Airlines Chief Strategy Officer Liu Yun-fu stated that with the recovery of passenger load factors on North American routes, continued popularity on Northeast Asian routes, and stable Southeast Asian routes, coupled with the launch of European routes in the second half of this year, Starlux Airlines' operations this year are certain to grow compared to last year.

Liu Yunfu stated on 27 January 2026 after the STARLUX AIRSORAYAMA Art Project, a brand initiative by Starlux Airlines, that the North American route performed poorly last year due to U.S. President Trump's retaliatory tariffs and immigration regulations. This year, with the impact of tariffs and immigration factors fading, passenger traffic on the North American route is expected to recover. The load factor in the first quarter has already rebounded to over 70%, and the goal is to stabilize it at 75%-80%. However, returning to the previous peak of 83%-85% will be extremely difficult. Nevertheless, since the launch of the Phoenix route in January, the load factor has been around 75-80%, a respectable performance. Overall, the North American route is expected to see significant growth compared to last year.

Liu Yunfu added that the Northeast Asian market benefits from exchange rate advantages, with the Japanese market remaining strong and the South Korean market also performing well. He anticipates that a route to Busan, South Korea, may be launched as early as the second half of the year.

Liu Yunfu analyzed that the Southeast Asian market is performing steadily overall. Currently, the availability of seats, flight frequency, and passenger volume at various destinations remain stable, unaffected by serious political factors (such as the political stability in Thailand). Vietnam has a large number of business travellers, while Manila mainly serves transit passengers. Demand for popular tourist destinations such as Danang, Phu Quoc, Hanoi and Denpasar remains stable, making it difficult to lower ticket prices.

Regarding new European destinations, Liu Yunfu said that two new destinations will be announced immediately after the Lunar New Year. Market analysts believe Prague and Milan are the most likely candidates.

Air Cambodia has signed agreements to purchase 20 B737-8 and 20 C909 planes

Report by : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA       Image : Air Cambodia

According to the Khmer Times, Air Cambodia issued a press release on 15 January 2026 announcing that it has signed agreements with Boeing to purchase 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8 (B737-8) aircraft and with Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) to purchase 20 C909 aircraft. This news was announced at the unveiling ceremony of Air Cambodia's new logo and new aircraft livery at Techo International Airport in Cambodia.

The new logo of Air Cambodia is inspired by the national bird of Cambodia, the Tror Yorng (meaning Giant Ibis in English). In Cambodian traditional culture, the Tror Yorng is regarded as a symbol of protection, strength and sacred auspiciousness. The new logo features a bird's beak tilted upwards at a 45-degree angle, cleverly integrating the bird's 18 feathers with aircraft engine blades, symbolizing soaring ambitions and powerful performance.

The ibis' body, however, is not seen.

In terms of visual design, the new livery uses royal blue as the main colour, complemented by gold, white and red, expressing Air Cambodia's unwavering pursuit of faith in the skies and professional authority, while striving to interpret the noble Khmer culture, a tranquil flight experience and warm in-flight service.
