According to China News Service, Cambodia's Techo International Airport officially opened for operations on 9 September 2025 local time. Air Cambodia flight K6611, that carries passengers from Guangzhou, is the first international commercial flight to land at Techo.
Techo International Airport is located in Kandal Province, Cambodia, approximately 19 km from the centre of Phnom Penh. It covers an area of 2,600 hectares and is being constructed in three phases. Phase I began construction in January 2020 and is scheduled for completion on 10 July 2025. Designed to the world's highest 4F standard, it is Cambodia's largest airport project ever. Upon completion of Phase I, the airport will be able to handle an annual passenger throughput of 13 million.
The airport is reportedly equipped with the largest chiller in the region, with a cooling capacity of 7,800 kilowatts, and is equipped with over 1,000 photovoltaic panels, generating up to 120 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 100,000 tons, making it one of the world's most environmentally friendly airports.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated Techo International Airport on its first day of operation on social media on 9 September. He noted that the opening of Techo will provide high-quality flight services for domestic and international passengers, further expand Cambodia's air connections with the world, and inject new impetus into the country's economic development.
